Speaking at Jones Chapel UMC about domestic violence

I just came back from speaking at Jones Chapel UMC about domestic violence and the nonprofit I work with. It was a great experience! The subject of domestic violence in the church family cannot be overstated. Clergy and church workers can be on the front lines of the battle against family violence. Yet, this area of ministry is often overlooked.

This church believes this so strongly that they combined the meetings for the ladies group and the mens group tonight to learn more about the problem. The church youth coordinator was also there. Afterward, I had a discussion with a leader in the ladies group about ways they can help the organization.

It was a productive meeting. Awareness of domestic violence in the church was raised and at least one possible volunteer came forward. Other than stopping the madness it doesn't get much better than it did tonight. Thanks, Jones Chapel, for letting me visit your groups.
